KTM has just shaken up the entry-level motorcycle segment in India with the launch of its most affordable model yet: the KTM 160 Duke. Priced at ₹1.85 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), this streetfighter is aimed squarely at college students and young enthusiasts who crave a sporty, high-performance machine for their daily commutes and weekend adventures. But does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive in.
Design and First Impressions
At first glance, the 160 Duke could easily be mistaken for its bigger sibling, the KTM 200 Duke. It borrows the same aggressive and sharp design language, complete with the signature trellis frame and muscular tank extensions. This “big bike” feel is a major plus, giving it a commanding presence on the road that belies its entry-level status.
The bike is available in three eye-catching colors:
- Electronic Orange: The classic, flashy KTM look.
- Silver Metallic Matt: A more subtle, sophisticated option.
- Atlantic Blue: A perfect middle ground, balancing flair with elegance.
Build quality is top-notch, with no exposed wiring and a premium finish throughout. KTM has even included the high-quality 4-way switchgear found on the more expensive 390 Duke, which feels tactile and satisfying to use.

The soul of the 160 Duke is its brand-new 164.2cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. Derived from the Duke 200’s powerplant, it produces an impressive 19 PS of power and 15.5 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful engine in the 150-160cc liquid-cooled streetfighter category.
On the road, this translates to a thrilling ride. The engine loves to be revved and feels most alive above 4,000 rpm. While it might feel a bit sluggish at lower revs, its quick-revving nature means you’re never far from a burst of power. It’s perfect for zipping through city traffic and feels equally at home on the highway, comfortably cruising at speeds of 80 km/h without feeling strained. Comfort hasn’t been sacrificed for sportiness. The riding position is relatively upright, and the long, well-cushioned seat provides ample room for both the rider and a pillion, making it comfortable enough for daily city rides. The suspension is well-tuned, striking a great balance between absorbing bumps and providing stability at higher speeds.

However, a few areas could be improved. The stock MRF Zapper tires don’t inspire complete confidence, especially in wet conditions, and the front brake lacks the strong initial bite you might expect from a KTM.
The KTM 160 Duke is a fantastic package that successfully ticks all the right boxes for its target audience. It delivers exciting performance, sharp handling, and a premium feel, all while being relatively easy on the pocket.
